For anyone with books to pass on

Give your books a new home

When you’re ready to part with books, we help them find their next reader. We collect them and sell the ones that have a resale market, and the partner organization you choose gets half of the profit* on every book that sells. We collect across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

Books don’t need to look new. If they are clean, complete and comfortable to read, they are usually worth passing on.

Getting the books ready

  • Put every book in a box. Boxes stack and carry; bags do not.
  • Fill each box so one person can lift it. If you can only drag it, it is too heavy.
  • Please have the boxes at your door, at ground level where a driver with a dolly can reach them. Our driver collects them there and does not come inside.
  • If the boxes wait outside, keep them dry and off wet ground. We cannot take wet or mouldy boxes.
  • Clear the way: unlock the gate, keep the dog inside, and tell us below about stairs, a buzzer code or a tight parking spot.
  • Give us the box count as accurately as you can. We plan the van around it, so let us know beforehand if it grows.
  • Books only, please. See what we can take.
  • Keep your phone nearby. The driver calls ahead, and if nobody answers they have to move on to the next address.

Terms

The organization you name is paid half of the profit on every book that sells. Profit is the price a book sells for, less the marketplace’s fees and charges, payment processing, currency conversion, postage and our handling allowance. Nothing else is deducted.

Books without a resale market may not be sold. We recycle them or donate them to other good causes that can put them to good use.

We’ll confirm by email, and the driver calls ahead on the day.

Fewer than ten boxes, or you would rather bring them yourself? Book a time at our Surrey office. Office 8, 12160 103A Avenue, Surrey, BC V3V 3G7, by appointment.

What we can take

Yes please

  • Novels and other fiction
  • History, biography and general non-fiction
  • Children’s and young-adult books
  • Cookbooks, art books and craft books
  • Textbooks and academic books
  • Hardbacks and paperbacks

Sorry, no

  • Magazines and newspapers
  • Encyclopedia sets
  • Damp, mouldy or water-damaged books
  • Books with missing pages, broken bindings or writing that makes them hard to read
  • Reader’s Digest condensed editions, book-club and reprint editions, and other books with no resale market

You don’t need to sort, price or list anything first. Pack the books securely; we do the sorting.

What happens to them

We assess and sort the books, then list those with an individual resale market online. That gives older, specialist and hard-to-find titles a better chance of reaching the people searching for them.

Usable books we cannot sell may be donated to charities, libraries or other organizations. Books that are no longer readable are recycled where facilities accept them.

The organization you name gets half of the profit on every book that sells, whether or not it has worked with us before. If it has not, we write to tell it your donation arrived and how working with us works.

Every organization gets a statement listing each book that sold: what it sold for, and its half.
