Scan and sell, for anywhere that already sells used books

More money from your books, less time sorting them.

Donated books arrive by the box, and someone has to sort, research and price every one of them. It is slow, and the valuable ones rarely announce themselves: a sought-after title looks much the same as a beaten paperback. Scan each book at intake and both jobs are done at once. Every book is sorted into your own categories as you go, and the ones worth real money are flagged before they reach a dollar table.

The opportunity

Your best books are leaving for loose change.

Rare, out-of-print, and sought-after titles hide in plain sight on a dollar table. Scanning them as they come in, before they reach the shelf, means the books worth real money can earn your organization a fair price.

Out of print
In demand
Collectible

These are the signals Bookfox checks for, on every book your team scans.

How it works

Three parts. Most of the work is the sorting your team already does.

1

Set your categories and minimums

Pick the sections you sort books into and the lowest wholesale price you'll accept. Takes a few minutes, and you can change it anytime.

2

Your staff scan the books

Staff and volunteers install the app and scan a QR code to join your store, then scan barcodes as they sort. The app flags what's worth selling wholesale.

3

We buy and pick up

We pay you wholesale for the valuable books, above the minimums you set, and arrange pickup with you. The rest stays sorted on your shelves.

We train your team and stay involved. Short videos get a new volunteer scanning in minutes, and when anyone needs a hand, we help by phone or in person.

Features

Everything your store gets

Free software your team runs on their own phones, free categorization, and real money for books you'd nearly give away, with almost no extra work for your team.

Free today, no subscription

The software is free, with no subscription and no per-book fee. If we ever start charging for a feature that's free today, we'll give you at least 60 days' notice.

Works on your team's phones

Your staff and volunteers scan with the app on their own phones, so there's no hardware to buy. Prefer dedicated barcode scanners? We may be able to lend some, subject to availability.

Dollar books, real money

Books you'd sell for a dollar or two can be worth far more than they look, and we pay wholesale for them.

Free pickup, paid fast

We collect the books we buy at no cost, on a schedule we arrange with you, and pay you within 7 days of your batch being accepted.

Sorted as you scan

Every book the app recognizes is filed into your own categories as you scan, so shelves stay organized.

See what's in demand

The app flags sought-after titles, so you can price or display popular books differently.

Catch new releases

Optionally surface recent releases so you can keep a fresh new-arrivals section in your store.

Volunteers join in seconds

No accounts to set up. Install the app, scan your store's QR code, and start scanning.

Quick to learn

Scan a book and the app shows the volunteer where it goes.

Live help when you need it

A real person you can reach by phone or in person when your team needs a hand.

You set the rules

Choose your categories and the lowest price you'll accept. We never knowingly buy below it, and every book is checked at inspection.

You keep the rest

We only buy the valuable books. Everything else stays on your shelves to sell as usual.

Free clearing when you're done

Once you have sold what you want to sell, we collect whatever is left and clear the shelf, at no cost to you.

Ready to start scanning?

Thrift store, book sale, Friends of the Library group, bookstore? Apply online and we'll be in touch, usually with a short call to learn how you work and get your team set up to scan.

Prefer to send a note first? Tell us about your store or sale and we'll take it from there.

Would you rather not handle books at all?

We also offer a program for organizations that would rather not handle books at all. We collect everything, sorted or not, and pay you a share as the books sell. See how that one works.
